From 16 to 27 July 2025, Germany will be the venue for one of the biggest sporting events in the world when more than 8,500 student athletes and officials from up to 150 countries come together for the FISU World University Games Rhine-Ruhr 2025. Medals will be contested in 18 different sports in the cities of Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr and Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as in Berlin. In addition to top-class sport, the sporting event with festival character offers an extensive artistic, cultural and educational supporting program for a wide audience, true to the motto „Everybody is all-in!“
The final decisions in archery will take place at Zollverein; the qualifications for this will run from 22 to 24 July 2025 at Essen’s Am Hallo Stadium sports park. Admission to the qualifiers is free. A paid ticket must be purchased for the finals at the Zollverein World Heritage Site.
Archery is a target sport with bow and arrow that can be practiced as a recreational or professional sport regardless of age, gender or ability. At the FISU Games – unlike at the Olympic Games – the sport is held in two categories: in addition to the Olympic recurve bow, there are also competitions with the compound bow. Recurve bows are easier to release than compound bows, which require a complex rope pull system and a launching device. Both require strength, a steady hand and a keen eye to operate them.
